Coeur d’Alene Indian Culture

Coeur d’Alene Indian Culture Thursday, November 8th, 2018 8:00 a.m. ~ 4:30 p.m. *EASY Tour Leader:  Ron Krueger What a fabulous day this will be with Tour Leader Ron Krueger.  You will drive to the Coeur d’Alene Casino. Have lunch (on your own) in the Red Tail Bar and Grill.  After lunch, we will visit the Cataldo Mission, which was built by the Jesuits and Coeur d'Alene Indians from 1850-1853 and is owned today by the tribe.  After wards, Quanah Matheson, the cultural director for the Tribe, will give you a hour-long presentation on his Tribe. He will give everyone the Tribe’s history, talk about its culture, way of life, diet, customs, and pleasures. For thousands of years, the Schitsu’umsh Indians (now known by their nickname the Coeur d'Alene's) lived on almost 5 million acres of aboriginal lands encompassing much of north-central Idaho and a bit of Washington and Montana. The presentation will be in the Teepee Lounge which only seats 15 people snugly, so we be limited to taking only one bus.  After Mr. Matheson’s presentation, there will be about 30 minutes of free time, to see the native exhibits in the Casino—or to try your hand at gambling.
