Scenic Drive in Palouse Country & Steptoe Butt

Our Tour Leader Susan Buck will entertain you with some fun facts on this magnificeint drive. This is such a beaufiful drive so bring your cameras and enjoy.  Here's a preview; High above the Palouse Hills on the southeastern edge of Washington, Steptoe Butte offers unparalleled views of a truly unique landscape. The warm quartzite bluff stands out against soft hills of green and mauve, an occasional barn dotting the landscape. Colors seem to shift and change in the light. The butte contains some of the oldest rock in the Pacific Northwest, and it marks the border of the original North American Continent. Steptoe has, over time, been a wagon road, a hotel site and an observatory location. In addition to inspiring vistas, the 3,612-foot summit displays several interpretive panels that pay homage to its distinctive geology. This day-use park is a must-visit on a leisurely drive through Eastern Washington. Fun Fact: Steptoe Butte is a 150-acre day-use park. Camping options for an eastern Washington road trip include Riverside, Field Springs and Lewis & Clark Trail state parks, all less than two hours away. Drive by Latah Barn and stop for lunch at a local restaurant on drive back to Corbin Center.

North Central High Presents “SKY SILENT” Matinee

This play is based on the true story and science of early 20th century female “computers” at Harvard Observatory. Astonishing discoveries await Henrietta Leavitt as she maps distant stars in galaxies beyond our own. But this brilliant, headstrong pioneer must struggle for recognition in the man’s world of turn-of-the-century astronomy. In this exquisite blend of science, history, family ties, and fragile love, a passionate young woman must map her own passage through a society determined to keep a woman in her place.

Calatldo Mission & Sacred Encounters

Ron Kruegar orchestrates the most amazing tours. You don't want to miss out!  Here is Ron's overview on what to expect on this trip.  The Cataldo Mission, which we will visit, is the oldest standing building in Idaho. It was built from 1850-53 by Jesuit Priests and members of the Coeur d'Alene tribe.   The 5000-square-foot Museum details the life of the Coeur d'Alenes and other Salish-speaking peoples during the 1840s and shows the interaction between them and the Jesuit Priests. There are many beautiful hand-crafted beaded items made by tribal members for us to admire. We'll have lunch at the Snake Pit, built in 1880 as a bar and brothel. After lunch we'll drive the short distance to Kellogg to see intriguing works of art made from junk pieces of metal.

Estate Garden Tour-Bainbridge Island & Tacoma

A tour of beauty and splendor with Tour Leader Carolyn Starner!  Journey with us to the bucolic estate gardens of Bainbridge Island and Tacoma. Both gardens, developed by owners over many years, will be at the height of their spring color, bursting with the blossoms of rhodys, azaleas, flowering trees, and the fresh greens of new spring growth. We will have access to the first floor of each large estate home. As time permits we will visit three specialty gardens: a small gem of a Japanese garden, a bonsai garden, and a woodland rhododendron garden. All vie for top honors in the U.S. Our hotel is near a domed Victorian conservatory, one of only three still standing on the west coast. Our accommodations are among the best offered in each city and are near excellent shopping, museums, and restaurants. On our way home we will make a side trip to view Snoqualmie Falls at its best with spring runoff thundering over the 269 foot drop. Pick up a brochure for details.

Ragtime Jazz in Twisp, WA

Love Jazz?  Well, join Tour Leader Ron Krueger on this annual trip to Twisp, WA.  Here's some highlights Ron has planned...The Hottell Ragtime Jazz Band, headed up by pianist Bill Hottell, has been playing toe-tapping music with the same seven members for over 40 years. The evening of June 21 the band will perform just for us Corbin members. We will stay at the sumptuous Twisp River Suites Inn situated right on the beautiful Twisp River. After we check in, we'll move a few feet to the river and sip a little wine (or other beverage of your choice). Then we'll adjourn to the Hottell residence for a little music. At the intermission we'll enjoy an included, catered gourmet dinner. This will be followed by a whole lot more lively music. More good news: the woman who does the haunting Hawaiian dances will perform for us again. Friday morning after a gourmet breakfast, Bill will lead us on a walking tour of historic Twisp. Then we'll drive the short distance to Winthrop to enjoy this Western town, and take a tour of the Shafer museum, which features many of the implements from our early days. This will be a fun two days. Ask any Corbin member who's been on one of these Twisp tours before.
