HANFORD BY JETBOAT TOPPENISH MURALS BY WAGON
May 30-June 1, 2012 (18 seat limit) ** MODERATE
Tour Leader: Irene Brady
Van Drivers: Ray & Geri Hamilton
Our Hanford tour in May was so successful, we decided to run it again with a few additions. The “main attraction” of this tour, however is the 3 hour, narrated Jet Boat ride up the Hanford Reach, which is the last free flowing section of the Columbia River within the United Sates. The Hanford Monument is also a reminder of our history. Plutonium reactors stand along the river, remnants of WWII and the Cold War. Plutonium from B reactors fueled “Fat Man”, the atomic bomb. This tour is rich in history. Wildlife abounds in this harsh landscape. Rare is a ride along the river that doesn’t produce trophy mule deer, coyotes, bald eagles, great blue herons or white pelicans, tons of beaver and porcupines. (yes, there is a bathroom on the boat!) The murals tour of Toppenish is no “Slouch” either. This is a horse drawn wagon ride. Artists have transformed the outside walls of many buildings with 70 colorful scenes, depicting pioneer life in the area. A new mural is dedicated annually on the first Saturday in June. The murals tour will be followed by a scrumptious seafood buffet lunch at the Casino.
Price: $450.00 ppdo and $579.00 ppso Deposit $150 due at sign up. Includes: Van transportation, 2 nights Red Lion w/2 full breakfast, Jet Boat ride, murals tour, seafood Buffet, Hops museum, cheese factory and a wonderful experience.
